Around 6:20 p.m., July 1, Clark County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a burglary in progress call at 8700 NE Hazel Dell Avenue.
The owner of the business was notified of an alarm and responded.
The owner arrived and found a broken window and told 911 and deputies on the scene that he could hear and see a male inside the business.
Deputies observed a person inside the building trying to break out a window from the inside to exit the building.
Police say they made several announcements over a loudspeaker letting the individual know a K-9 was on the scene, he was under arrest, to surrender, and exit the front door.
After no response, deputies and the Vancouver Police K-9 team entered the building and found the suspect barricaded behind a door.
The sheriff’s office crisis negotiator was used to get the suspect to comply.
The subject did not respond to the request to comply and was once again challenged with arrest announcements and a K-9 warning.
Entry was made into a room where the suspect was hiding and surrendered without incident.
Jacob Hathaway was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for medical treatment not related to his arrest.
Hathaway was booked into the Clark County Jail on burglary and mischief charges.
