John Petty Jr. is listed on an NBA Summer League roster for the second straight year as he is on the New Orleans Pelicans 2022 summer team.

The former Alabama shooting guard will join a roster that includes three players from the Pelicans' 2021-22 team (Jose Alvarado, Naji Marshall and Trey Murphy III), as well as three rookies from the 2022 NBA Draft (Dyson Daniels, E.J. Liddell and Karlo Matković).

Petty being on the Pelicans summer team this year marks the second straight year of New Orleans bringing in talent from the Crimson Tide, with last year being Kira Lewis Jr. and Herbert Jones, the latter of which had an impressive rookie season and solidified himself in the Pelicans' starting lineup by the second half of the season and into the playoffs.

After going undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft, Petty joined the Detroit Pistons for the summer league last season, however, he didn't play in a single game. He was later signed by New Orleans less than a week before the 2021-22 NBA season began, but was waived two days later.

Less than two weeks after being waived by the Pelicans, Petty joined their G League affiliate team, the Birmingham Squadron, where he played in 31 games for them last season and averaged 8.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. The Squadron ended up going 18-14, resulting in them being in fourth place in the Western Conference and firmly in the playoffs, where they lost in the first round to the Texas Legends, the Dallas Mavericks' G League affiliate team.

The NBA Summer League will feature all 30 NBA teams playing five games each, and will be held from July 7-17 in Las Vegas at the Thomas and Mack Center and the Cox Pavilion at the University of Nevada. The Pelicans will play starting on July 9 against the Portland Trailblazers, then will play against the Atlanta Hawks on July 11, the Washington Wizards on July 13, and the Los Angeles Lakers on July 15. The date and opponent will be decided for the Pelicans' fifth game depending on the results of their first four games.

Every game of the NBA Summer League will be aired on television either on ESPN networks or NBA TV, as well as available to stream on ESPN+ and the ESPN App.
