The Sylacauga Police Department has started a homicide investigation after a shooting Friday night, according to a release from the department. It is the city's first homicide of the year.
At approximately 11 p.m. Friday, the Sylacauga Police Department responded to Coosa Valley Medical Center on calls of a victim that had been shot. It was reported that 22-year-old Nartavius Cortez Fluker-Smith had been transported by private vehicle to the emergency department of CVMC suffering from multiple gun-shot wounds.
Investigators responded to CVMC to speak to witnesses and process the vehicle that Fluker-Smith was transported in.
According to witnesses, the victim was sitting in a 2011 Ford Fusion near his residence, 306 S. Main Avenue when the shooter(s) approached him and began firing at him inside of the vehicle. The victim was then transported in the same vehicle to the ER. Approximately an hour later SPD was notified of the victim’s death.
On Thursday, police arrested Sheridan Rashon Clark of Talladega for capital murder in connection to the homicide investigation. Clark, 19, is being held at Talladega County Hail without bond.
