75-year-old shot, killed by Sacramento police while assaulting wife, authorities say
One man is dead after Sacramento police shot him while he assaulted his wife in south Sacramento, authorities said.
Officers responded to reports of a 75-year-old man armed with two knives threatening to kill his wife in the 5600 block of Gilgunn Way around 12:15 a.m., which is off of Fruitridge Road, the Sacramento Police Department said in a release.
The woman had locked herself in a bathroom, according to authorities. Officers were at the scene for over 10 minutes attempting to deescalate the situation when the man entered the bathroom.
"The victim was heard screaming as officers entered the residence," police said that's when an officer shot the man.
The 75-year-old was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
The woman was not injured and no officers were injured in the shooting, authorities said.
Authorities said traffic will be impacted.

Authorities are investigating. As well as the Office of Public Safety Accountability and the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Officers who are providing oversight by monitoring the investigation.
Police body camera video and audio will be released to the public from this shooting due to it falling under the Sacramento City Council's policy on police use of force. That will be released to the public within 30 days, authorities said.
