MONSOON SEASON IS STARTING STRONG IN THE MIDDLE OF A HISTORIC FIRE SEASON, BUT WE NEED TO STAY DILIGENT AND WE NOT PUT OUR GUARD DOWN SANTA FE CITY FIRE. CHIEF, BRIAN MOYA SAYS, WE’RE NOT OUT OF THE WOODS WITH FIRE DANGER JUST YET IF WE GET THESE DRY DAYS, YOU KNOW, IT’S GONNA START DRYING OUT THE MOISTURE CONTENT IN THE FUELS AND AS WE HEAD INTO FOURTH OF JULY WEEKEND, MOYA SAYS, THERE’S ONE THING TO BE MOST WORRIED ABOUT ILLEGAL FIREWORKS PEOPLE LOVE FIREWORKS, BUT WE ALSO NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE’RE DOING IT CORRECTLY. SO THE CITY OF SANTA FE IS RUNNING A COMMUNITY CELEBRATION TO KEEP PEOPLE FROM SETTING THEM OFF BY THEMSELVES, BUT LET THE PROFESSIONALS LIKE TO FIREWORKS PAND YOU JUST SIT BACK AND ENJOY THEM WITH YOUR FAMILIES AND IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO DO YOUR OWN CELEBRATION FOR THE FOURTH, YOU CAN BUY LEGAL FIREWORKS. THAT STANDS LIKE THESE JUST HAVE TO BE AWARE THAT YOU WON’T BE ABLE TO USE THOSE FIREWORKS IN ANY AREAS LIKE OUR BOSQUE OR OUR EAST MOUNTAINS THE BOTTLE ROCKETS THE ROMAN CANDLES AND THOSE KIND OF THINGS ARE GOING TO SHOOT IT UP HIGH IN THE AIR ABOVE THE SIX FEET. ONCE THEY GO UP IN THE AIR. WE DON’T KNOW WHERE THEY’RE GONNA COME DOWN AND LAND. BERNALILLO COUNTY FIRE OFFICIALS SPEND DAYS INVESTIGATING FIREWORK TENTS MAKING SURE ONLY LEGAL ONES ARE SOLD AND SOME OF IT IS IS TO PROTECT THE BEAUTIFUL AREA THAT WE’RE IN RIGHT NOW WE CAN DO HERE IS SELL THE LEGAL FIREWORKS THAT ARE SAFE FOR THE COMMUNITY AND PEOPLE CAN ENJOY THESE IN THEIR HOMES IN A SAFE MANNER, BUT IF A FIRE DOES START THEY SAY THEY ARE READY TO RESPOND. As Fourth of July celebrations begin this weekend, here are guidelines from several fire departments. Some counties may have changed their regulations, however other local municipalities within each county may still have restrictions.   • San Miguel County has banned the sale and use of all fireworks in the county
  • The county's Board of Commissioners came to the decision in response to the Hermits Peak/Calf Canyon Fire which was the largest in New Mexico history

Santa Fe Fire Department

  • The city of Santa Fe is hosting a community firework celebration to prevent illegal firework usage
  • There are tents to purchase legal fireworks, with bans on fireworks that will be shown at its celebration

Bernalillo County Fire Department

  • Legal fireworks may be purchased from tents since fire officials told KOAT that they spent days investigating the tents
  • All fireworks are prohibited within 100 feet of the Bosque and East Mountains

Rio Rancho Fire Department

  • Rio Rancho forbid fireworks that go higher than 10 feet and fireworks that are louder than a cap gun
  • Those found guilty of selling, being in possession or using fireworks are entitled to the same penalties as Albuquerque: No more than a $500 fine and no more than a 90-day jail sentence
