Los Alamos Public Schools Retired Teachers Encouraged To Participate In Return To Work Program

With the recent passage of the Educational Retirees Returning to Work Act, Los Alamos Public Schools is encouraging retired teachers to consider returning to the classrooms for the 2022-2023 school year. 

The new return-to-work program allows retirees to go back to work without salary or work hour limits. Applicants must observe a 90-day layout period prior to becoming eligible for the program.

“Retired teachers bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the classroom that not only benefits our students, but our newer teachers as well,” Assistant Superintendent Jennifer Guy said. “Their shared expertise would go a long way in ensuring the success of our staff development and well-being.”

The district is looking to fill teaching positions in preschool, third grade and fifth grade. Los Alamos Middle School has openings for a Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) teacher, German teacher and Language Arts teacher while the Los Alamos High School is in search of a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher. The district also has openings for Special Education teachers. 

“We also want to increase our list of substitute teachers,” Guy said.
