A motorcyclist died in a crash Friday in Des Moines after eluding a Polk County sheriff's deputy who had tried to pull him over, Des Moines police said in a news release.

The deputy did not pursue the motorcycle, police said. About eight minutes later, around 5:39 p.m., the rider, Kobi Ozimek, 24, of Des Moines, ran a red light and collided with a car at the intersection of Second and Douglas avenues, police said.

Ozimek was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, they said.

The crash remained under investigation, police said.
