An 18-year-old motorcyclist from Fort Lauderdale is dead after he rear-ended a car on Interstate 95 South near the Sheridan St. exit early Saturday morning, shutting down the highway and causing traffic to be diverted for hours, officials said. However, I-95 has been reopened.
The crash happened shortly about 5:15 a.m. Saturday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The motorcyclist, who was riding a 2013 gray Yamaha, “failed to reduce his speed,” according to a FHP news release and collided with the rear end of the 2008 black Chevy Impala.
The motorcyclist fell onto the road and was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital with serious injuries, and later died.
The Impala driver stayed on the scene, troopers said.
