MATCH RECAP | Thorns FC snatch 1-1 draw against Angel City FC at the death behind Ryan's late goal

LOS ANGELES - Portland Thorns FC left it until the last possible minute, but managed to steal a point from Angel City FC at Banc of California Stadium thanks to a Yazmeen Ryan goal deep into stoppage time on Friday night which ended the match with a 1-1 draw.

Five Thorns FC players made their first NWSL starts and 24-year-old goalkeeper Shelby Hogan made seven saves in her NWSL debut as a shorthanded Portland side overcame a penalty kick goal it conceded in the second minute to prevent its first loss in over a month.

Match Moments

2' - GOAL (ACFC) - Portland found itself in a less than ideal position early after defender Kelli Hubly was called for a foul in the box in the first minute. Hogan did well to save Savannah McCaskill's initial attempt, but the forward pounced on the rebound and put it past the goalkeeper, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead.

5' - CHANCE (POR) - Hubly nearly delivered an equalizer minutes later as the ball found her in the box, but her shot went wide of the left post.

16' - CHANCE (POR) - Portland's next dangerous opportunity came in the 16th minute as Hina Sugita found space down the left and served a cross to the back post. The ball reached Ryan, but she couldn't put enough strength on her shot and only made it as far as Angel City goalkeeper DiDi Haracic.

26' - CHANCE (POR) - Hannah Betfort had a dangerous opportunity of her own midway through the first half. Marissa Everett received the ball in midfield and drove at the end line before sending a cross to an unmarked Betfort at the back post, but the attempted header had too much power and flew over the bar.

39' - CHANCE (POR) - Ryan came inches away from netting a stunning goal off a free kick and bringing Portland back into the game. Her attempt cleared the wall, but couldn't dip quickly enough to challenge Haracic.

54' - SAVES (POR) - Tested with a driven shot from distance, Hogan dove low and to her left to get a strong hand on the shot. Called upon again a minute later, Hogan dove to her right and pushed another shot away to prevent Angel City from adding a second goal.

72' - CHANCE (POR) - Brought into the game midway through the second half, Morgan Weaver generated a half-chance for herself in the box. After receiving the ball on a pass poked through to her centrally, Weaver turned and fired a shot that Haracic corralled.

82' - CHANCE (POR) - Madison Pogarch spotted Weaver making a run into the box and slipped her a low ball, but Weaver's final shot was blocked away.

90+6' - GOAL (POR) - Seconds away from suffering its first defeat since May 21, Portland had one final opportunity late and fully capitalized on it. Pogarch played a deep cross from the left that found the head of Ryan, who nodded the ball past Haracic to level the score in the final moments and allow the Thorns to walk away with a hard-fought point.
