EATON COUNTY, MI -- A man was severely injured Friday afternoon after being hit by a train near Lansing, police said.

At about 4:05 p.m. July 1, deputies from the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a train hitting a pedestrian in the area of Millett Highway and Lansing Road in Delta Township, just west of Lansing.

Based on an initial investigation, police believe a Canadian National Railway train was heading southbound near Millett Highway when it struck a man on the railroad tracks.

The man is currently in critical condition at a local hospital, police said.

All intersections blocked by the train were opened about two hours after the crash.

Deputies were assisted by the Delta Township Fire Department and Candian National Police.
