Four-Star OT Fletcher Westphal Recaps Recent Virginia Tech Camp Visit

Fletcher Westphal 1 June 2022 VT Visit

Four-star OT Fletcher Westphal out of Northern Virginia has emerged as one of Virginia Tech's top 2024 targets with the Hokies already gaining loads of traction as Westphal has visited Blacksburg a lot since the arrival of Tech's new staff.

He made another trip to Tech last weekend but this time, he also saw this as an opportunity to work on his game and get coached up by VT OL coach Joe Rudolph, and not just learn more about Virginia Tech.

"It felt good being back at Virginia Tech. I got in some work with Coach Rudolph working on technique and the details of OL play," Westphal said.

He also gave us some more insight on what the scope of his camp visit to Blacksburg looked like.

"Worked one-on-one with Coach Rudolph and a few of the current VT OL players on ways to improve my pass set and using my arm length to my advantage," Westphal said.

So how was his time and conversations with Joe Rudolph?

"We talked about things I can do to improve and some drills that I can work at home by myself to get better. Definitely helpful," Westphal said.

He also got to spend some time working with current veteran Virginia Tech OL Silas Dzansi which was a great chance to get a taste of the greater size he will face in the future at the highest levels of college football along with a chance to refine his game.

"Silas helped me refine the techniques Coach Rudolph was teaching. Going up against someone my size gave me a different perspective too," Westphal said.

So what did he learn and develop the most from his time at Virginia Tech's camp?

"The big things I learned were power production, importance of using my length to my advantage and eye discipline focus on my opponents," Westphal said.

Though his focus was on competing and improving his game, this was also another chance for Virginia Tech to make another strong impression on him. Westphal had this to say about how this camp visit impacted his recruitment and where Virginia Tech stands in it.

"Still early in my recruitment but my goal is to learn as much as I can about each school, their football program and culture. Definitely impressed by what I’m seeing at Virginia Tech," Westphal said.

There's no doubt that Fletcher Westphal is a top 2024 priority for Virginia Tech with the Hokies continuing to have a very strong start in his recruitment.
