Couple Charged for Fentanyl Death of 2-Year-Old Child

MUNHALL, PA – A Munhall coupe has been arrested for the drug-induced death of their 2-year-old child. Police said the parents are now facing criminal homicide charges.

According to police, on May 12, at 1:12 a.m., officers were called to a residence in the 1400 block of Margaret Street for an unresponsive 2- year-old child.

“The child was taken to an area hospital where he later died. Munhall Police requested the investigative assistance of the Allegheny County Police Homicide Unit,” police reported. “Detectives responded to the scene and observed the residence was in deplorable conditions with multiple safety hazards, including drug paraphernalia which was easily accessible to children. On June 29, 2022, the Allegheny County Office of the Medical Examiner determined the cause of death was fentanyl toxicity and the manner was homicide.”


After the coroner determined the child’s cause of death, Allegheny County Police obtained arrest warrants for the victim’s parents, 39-year-old James Kraft and 28-year-old Paige Hufnagel.

“The two are charged with criminal homicide, endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering another person. On June 30, 2022 at 6:00 a.m., Kraft and Hufnagel were taken into custody by Allegheny County and Munhall Police, at their residence. Kraft and Hufnagel will be lodged in the Allegheny County Jail awaiting arraignment,” police reported.
