NHL trade, Pittsburgh Penguins, Patric Hornqvist tribute

Time’s up. Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang should sign, or it’s time for all to move on. Reading tea leaves from Pittsburgh Penguins president of hockey operations Brian Burke, the Penguins have gone about as far as they will. So, it’s time for sides to decide, or at least that’s what this writer opined. The top buyout candidates in the NHL could have make ripples across the league. The Philadelphia Flyers injury news already has them off on the wrong foot for next season. And the Vancouver Canucks took a significant trade piece off the NHL trade board.

Also, the San Jose Sharks cleaned house as Vancouver added a couple of assistant coaches with head coaching experience. Jim Rutheford is up to something.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Ok, pick your yinzer expression about going or getting off the pot. I’ll leave you to insert the colorful adjective for bodily functions, but based on Brian Burke speaking to PHN and national radio outlets, Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin need to sign, or all sides need to move on. Pittsburgh Penguins analysis.

NHL Trade Chatter, News & National Hockey Now:

Sportsnet: An interesting list, and I believe I’ll have more to say. Patric Hornqvist made the list. Here’s one take–the top five buyout candidates in the NHL.

Vancouver: Brock Boeser is off the NHL trade market. He signed a three-year deal and got a bit raise(?!) from the Vancouver Canucks.

Also, the Canucks hired a pair of assistant coaches with head coaching experience. Mike Yeo and Jeremy Colliton. Canucks news.

San Jose: Our Sheng Peng was sleeping (like most humans) when the Sharks fired head coach Bob Boughner. The news leaked around 5 a.m. Friday. It is a surprise and a late firing because all other jobs have been filled. Peng writes it was an unfair move, but it makes sense. San Jose Sharks news.

Add one more name to the finalists list for the GM gig in San Jose. Scott Mellanby. Full story — San Jose Sharks GM search.

Philly: Joel Farabee had major surgery. Ryan Ellis, too. But could Ellis be back for training camp, giving the Flyers a massive boost? Philadelphia Flyers injury news.

Ottawa Sun: Finally, Bruce Garrioch with some good old-fashioned NHL trade rumors. We know the score with Puljujarvi. But he also reports the Montreal Canadiens are trying to get another pick in the top 10 of this year’s draft.

Montreal Hockey Now: Three stories, here we go:

First, the Canadiens are playing poker with that top pick. The emergence of two potential selections has created a bit of chaos, and could the Montreal Canadiens benefit?

The Canadiens are especially watching the New Jersey Devils. Could NJ flinch and make some waves on the NHL trade market?

On the ice, Montreal will need a goalie. There are UFA candidates and some trade possibles for those Montreal Canadiens.

Vegas: And Owen Krepss continues his summer tear down of the Golden Knights. He says they must put William Karlsson on the trade block before it’s too late. Vegas Golden Knights chatter.
