Awards given at Lions Club’s Annual Charter Observance

The Bowmanstown-Parryville Lions Club held its 46th Annual Charter Observance on Monday at the Bowmanstown Volunteer Fire Company Hall.

Toastmaster Lion Earl Reabold introduced honored guests Past District Governor Gary Bender and his wife Lion Melissa.

2022 Scholastic Achievement Award recipients were Gracie Everett, Palmerton Area High School; Callie Hayman, Lehighton Area High School; Carter Gardner, Carbon Career & Technical Institute (Palmerton - Drafting); and Kyle Nothstein, Carbon Career & Technical Institute (Lehighton - Welding).

Each recipient received a plaque, along with $300.

The Past District Governor installed the following officers for the 2022-2023 Lion Year:

• President: Lyle A. Augustine Jr.

• First Vice President: Jean F. Smith

• Second Vice President: Scott L. Fenstermaker

• Secretary: Ruth Mary Augustine

• Treasurer: William H. Ravert

• Assistant Treasurer: Lyle Augustine Jr.

• Lion Tamer: Ronald M. Engle

• Tail Twister: Earl C. Reabold

• Chaplain: Kathy J. Nunemacher

• Board of Directors (1-year term): Scott Fenstermaker, Carole Beck, Ronald Engle, Norman Engle Jr., Earl Reabold

• Board of Directors (2-year term): Loraine Neal, Raymond Nunemacher, Joseph Herzog, Brenda Snyder, Cheryl Ravert

Past District Governor Gary Bender inducted the following new members into the Club: Cheryl A. Ravert and Brenda L. Snyder.

Bender also presented the Lions of Pennsylvania Foundation Fellowship Awards to Lion William H. Ravert, and Lion Nancy M. Herzog; and the Lions Club International Foundation - Melvin Jones Fellowship to the late Albina M. Engle. Her daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Jeff Borger, accepted this award, as well as a Bible from the Club, in her memory.

Bender stressed the importance of attracting new members, and asking folks to volunteer at activities to introduce them to Lionism and hopefully spark their interest to join.

President Loraine Neal thanked all of the members for their support during her two terms as club president. She noted the many accomplishments realized during this time including work performed under the Grant the Club received to repair/refurbish the Bowmanstown Borough Monument - noting that the rescheduled rededication program will be held at 11 a.m. Monday.

Augustine presented the president’s award plaque and a past president pin to Loraine K. Neal in recognition of and appreciation for her service as club president for the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 Lion Years.
