RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN/AP) — Tropical Storm Colin formed early Saturday morning near the South Carolina coast with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph.
However, Colin was only able to last a little over 24 hours.
As of 5am Sunday, the National Hurricane Center has issued its final advisory for Colin, and declared that it has dissipated over eastern North Carolina.
What is left of Colin will move to the northeast at 7 miles per hour. Despite Colin weakening, residents and visitors along the coastline can expect bouts of rain and gusty winds.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms were still ongoing with the Colin’s remnant low pressure center, but most of the convection is offshore in the Atlantic this morning.
Some Fourth of July celebrations planned Saturday in Charleston, South Carolina, were canceled after significant water had pooled on the field at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park and more rain was expected.
“Obviously, we’re disappointed,” said Scott Watson, the city’s director of cultural affairs. “This promised to be a great family event, and we hate to have to cancel.”
Organizers were also forced to cancel a festival planned in Southport, North Carolina.
“The safety of festival-goers, vendors, volunteers, emergency workers and everyone is our highest priority,” festival spokesperson Trisha Howarth said in a statement.
