MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Madison Police are investigating a report of shots fired near Stoughton Road Saturday.

At around midnight, Madison Police responded to a call of shots fired near Highway 12/18 and Stoughton Road. Police say multiple shell casings were found at the scene.

A car that police believe was involved in the incident was stopped near South Gammon Road near Highway 12/18, according to MPD.

Spike strips were deployed to stop the car on the Beltline, and Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes credited officers for their swift action in stopping the vehicle.

“The coordination of the officers was impressive. The supervisors taking charge was impressive, and we had officers from other agencies. I was very proud to see what a great, swift, non-violent end to that,” Barnes said.

Barnes said a gun was found outside the car after police were able to arrest the suspect.

No injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.
