ACPD: Man Found Badly Injured Thursday; Case Handed Over to County Attorney

A 26-year-old man was found badly injured, and required hospitalization, Thursday in Ark City, according to a statement from police.

Just before 10:30 p.m., officers responded to the 400 block of South C St. in Ark City for the report of an unresponsive male. His name has not been made public.

The man had sustained substantial injuries to his head and body.

The subject was transported to the South Central Kansas Medical Center and was later flown to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.  Officers gathered information and evidence at the scene along with a brief statement from the victim.

Investigators were able to conduct a full interview with the victim Friday and the case has been transferred to the Cowley County Attorney’s Office for further action.

The victim is listed in stable condition, according to police.

Police have not shared how exactly the man was injured, but said it was not a random act of violence.

“Not yet able to release all details but I can say that the victim did know the other parties involved,” Police Chief Eric Burr said. “It was not a random incident. The case was sent to the County Attorney for possible charges. We should know something more definitive next week on course of action.”

Police ask that if community members have information about this incident to please contact ACPD at (620) 441-4547.
