Aquarion proposes to increase its water rates by a total of 27 percent over the next three years. Year one would see water prices rise by 14 percent, followed by about 7 percent in the second year, and then the third boost of more than four percent. In the first year alone, the utility says this amounts to an extra 75 dollars to the average to the average customer's yearly bill. The increase would affect 56 Connecticut towns. A double digit water bill hike is the last thing Connecticut families need right now, says state Attorney General William Tong. He vows to vigorously review every aspect of this rate request.
