UPDATE, JULY 1, 10:40 PM:
The RPD said their officers arrested 42-year-old Malcolm Cooper of Redding after responding to a report of an unknown man trespassing at an Airbnb while possibly armed with a firearm.
Officers arrived at the home on the 1300 block of Trinity Street just before 7 p.m. and set up a perimeter in the area.
The RPD said officers confirmed the suspect, later identified as Cooper, was wearing a possible holster on his right hip and formulated a plan to use less-than-lethal force to detain him.
As officers approached Cooper, they said they saw the holster on his right hip was actually a sheath with a large knife inside.
RPD officials said their officers were familiar with Cooper. They said he has a history of weapons violations and threats of violence against police.
However, with all of that, Cooper complied with officers and they safely detained him without incident.
Officers later learned Cooper was on parole for domestic violence felonies. The RPD said the knives in Cooper's possession violated his parole conditions, so he was arrested and later booked into the Shasta County Jail for trespassing and probation violation.
