Phase one of All-Star voting is complete.

Now we move onto phase two.

Aaron Judge and Ronald Acuna Jr. have already secured themselves starting spots for the American League and National League, respectively, but there is much to be decided before we know who else will be headed to Los Angeles for the All-Star Game.

The race for the starting spot at first base appears to be a two-horse race right now, between Paul Goldschmidt of the St. Louis Cardinals and Pete Alonso of the New York Mets.

Mets insider Anthony DiComo posted a tweet comparing Goldschmidt and Alonso’s stats, as they are the finalists for first base.

Goldy Vs. Polar Bear At First

More likely than not, Goldschmidt will get the nod.

That’s not to say Alonso won’t make it, but Goldschmidt seems to have the edge.

In terms of statistics, Alonso is ahead of Goldschmidt in homers and RBI, but Goldschmidt has a higher average, and he continued his hot streak in June after being named NL Player of the Month in May.

He has been virtually impossible to get out at the plate.

For all the talk of Aaron Judge being the one of the hottest hitters on the planet, Goldschmidt isn’t too far behind him.

But this next phase of voting should be interesting.

Alonso and Goldschmidt’s stats are both quite good this season.

It’s going to be fun to keep track of this race at first base and see who ends up getting the nod to start for the NL All-Stars.

We’ll see what happens in the next few weeks.

It should be neck and neck between the two of them.
