A community is heartbroken following the shooting death of a 3-year-old boy Friday morning at a Milwaukee home.
It happened near 19th Street and Juneau Avenue just after 4:30 a.m.
Family identified the child as 3-year-old A'Kai Stilo.
Police said Stilo obtained a gun in the home and accidentally shot and killed himself.
Police arrested a 28-year-old woman in connection to the incident.
WISN 12 News spoke with the toddler's father, who does not live at the home.
"A'Kai was silly, goofy, loves spider man, paw patrol, loved being around his family," his father Akem Stilo said. "He loved music, just a very cool kid, awesome kid. My baby."
Stilo said the boy's mother called Friday morning.
"She just told me hurry up and get there," he said. "I was shocked. I was hurt. [At a] loss for words. I don't know how to take it."
WISN 12 News asked if he was aware that there was a gun in that home.
"No, not at all. No," he said. "I’m still lost.”
Milwaukee police said there are gun locks available at police districts. They ask that you call ahead to ensure there is supply.
