June 30 crash involves Jasper County Deputy, minor injuries reported

CARTHAGE, Mo. — On June 30, 2022 at approximately 4 p.m. a Jasper County Deputy was one of three vehicles involved in a motor vehicle accident near County Road 118 and State Highway 96, east of Carthage.

The deputy was traveling east on 96 Hwy. while a second vehicle was stopped on the west bound side in order to make a turn onto County Road 118. The stopped vehicle was struck from behind by a third vehicle which was traveling west.

After hitting the stopped vehicle, the third vehicle then crossed the center line striking the Jasper County Deputy’s vehicle.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol worked the accident and only minor injuries were reported at this time. The driver of the vehicle causing the accident was arrested for DWI. The driver was identified as Elmer Rodrigo Velasquez, 29, of Avilla.

The name of the deputy involved has not been released at this time.
