On Thursday the Marion City Council passed an ordinance banning open burning and fireworks inside the Marion city limits.

The ordinance noted that Marion’s water reserves were extremely limited and the the potential to have to fight a fire would strain the city’s supply.

Mayor Jared Byford said the ban would remain in effect until the state of emergency no longer exists.

Crittenden County officials also said that the county's brush collection yard near city limits has been closed, and no burning will take place there until further notice.
