4-star CB Jaylon Braxton decommits from Michigan State

Michigan State’s next recruiting class officially decreased by one.

Jaylon Braxton, a 2023 four-star cornerback from Lone Star High School in Frisco, Texas, announced his decommitment from the Spartans via Twitter on Friday night and said he will be picking a school on July 9.

The development isn’t a surprise. Braxton publicly committed to Michigan State on June 14 after taking an official visit earlier that month. However, he took an official visit to Arkansas later that week and deleted his commitment tweet. Braxton is the first decommit for coach Mel Tucker and the Spartans this cycle.

Braxton, 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds, is listed as the No. 27 cornerback and No. 248 player overall in the 2023 class, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. He has more than two dozen offers, including Arkansas, Baylor, Miami, LSU and Penn State.

Braxton was one of five players to publicly commit to Michigan State in June. The others still in the fold from that group are four-star offensive lineman Clay Wedin, four-star receiver Demitrius Bell, four-star cornerback Chance Rucker and four-star linebacker Jordan Hall.

With the loss of Braxton, Michigan State now has 10 players committed to its 2023 recruiting class, which ranks 31st in the nation in the 247Sports Composite. In addition to the June commits, the others in the group are four-star defensive lineman Andrew Depaepe, four-star tight end Brennan Parachek, four-star running back Kedrick Reescano, three-star offensive lineman Johnathan Slack, three-star quarterback Bo Edmundson and three-star cornerback Eddie Pleasant III.
