Lightning strike sparks fire at Daytona Beach home
Lightning struck a home on the South Peninsula in Daytona Beach on Friday afternoon. Fire officials determined the strike started a fire that damaged a bedroom and bathroom.They said the bolt hit during a fierce thunderstorm in the 1700 block of South Peninsula Drive.The owners were home at the time and smelled smoke. They tried to put out the fire themselves but finally evacuated.Firefighters managed to contain the blaze to those rooms.Fortunately, no one was injured.According to WFLA, a lightning bolt that struck a Hillsborough County home on Friday also caused a fire. It happened just before 6 p.m. in Ruskin. There were no smoke or flames visible from the front of the home, and firefighters found the fire came from the attic.
