Motorcyclist killed in Des Moines crash had just accelerated away from a deputy
Des Moines police have identified the man who was killed in a motorcycle crash Friday night after having just accelerated away from a sheriff's deputy.Twenty-four-year-old Kobi Ozimek, of Des Moines, died from injuries suffered in the crash, which was reported at 5:39 p.m. near Park Fair Mall. Police say it happened at the intersection of Second Avenue and Douglas Avenue.Police later learned that a Polk County sheriff's deputy attempted to pull over a motorcycle at about 5:31 p.m. According to police, the driver of the motorcycle accelerated away from the deputy and the traffic stop was abandoned. Witnesses reported that the motorcyclist failed to yield to a red light at the intersection of Second Avenue and Douglas Avenue, then collided with a vehicle within the intersection.The motorcyclist was transported to a hospital where he died.The investigation is ongoing.
