A young husband and wife are dead, and their three children are in the hospital after their car was hit by a train Friday, South of San Antonio.
It happened around 7:10 a.m. along some train tracks north of Pleasanton here at 281 and Strawberry City Road.
DPS troopers say the driver failed to yield at the crossing which caused their car to be struck by an oncoming train.
The impact pushed the vehicle more than half a mile down the tracks. Robert Wayne Hetzer Jr, 25, and Alyson Yvette Hetzer, 26 were pronounced dead at the scene. Their three children were in the back and survived but were all rushed to University Hospital in serious condition. Two of them were flown by helicopter.
According to the University Hospital, one of the children has been discharged, one is in serious condition, and the other one is still in critical condition.
