Man arrested in connection with fatal shooting of ride-share driver on Indy's west side

A 24-year-old man was arrested Thursday in connection with the fatal shooting of a ride-share driver on Indianapolis’ west side, according to police.  

Devin Powell was arrested and preliminary charged with murder and robbery connected to the man’s death, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.  

Officers found the man after they were dispatched to the 3000 block of Rolling Dunes Drive on a report of a person shot on Thursday just before 6 a.m., police said.  

The man killed was identified as Anthony Garland, 34, according to the Marion County Coroner's Office.

Garland was found outside in a grassy area. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to IMPD.  

Garland was linked to a missing person investigation. He was working as a driver for a ride share company around the time he and his vehicle went missing, according to police.  

The vehicle was located later in the day on Thursday in Merrillville in Lake County, about two hours north of Indianapolis. Powell was in possession of the vehicle when investigators located it and he was arrested, according to police.
