BELFAST — Philip Eugene Myers, Sr., 93, passed away peacefully at the Harbor Hill Center in Belfast, June 28, 2022.

Born at home in Old Town, Phil was the middle son of Augusta J. and Josephine Nash Myers. His younger years were spent in Old Town and multiple Maine towns, eventually moving to Rockland where he attended school.

At 17 years old, he enlisted in the Air Force and served 35 months in Europe during World War II. After returning to the States, he obtained his private pilot’s license under the GI Bill, and flew solo to New York, and then, across the country. He loved flying.

In 1948, Phil married Virginia Pease, with whom he had a son, Philip E. ‘Sonny’ Myers, Jr. The family made their home in Thomaston.

After the passing of his first wife, Phil married Priscilla Verge in 1974, and continued to live in Thomaston until shortly after her passing in 2017. In 2018 he transitioned to the Assisted Living Unit at the Harbor Hill Center.

Phil went to work at Dragon Cement in 1950, working for 30 years before retiring in 1983 when the plant sold. He then, began employment for George C. Hall Co. as a truck driver, until in his 80s, when he was forced to
retire due to the company’s inability to obtain insurance for someone his age. He was quick to say, this was his favorite job!

Following retirement, he and his wife enjoyed wintering at their home in Floridas where they engaged in many activities, Phil loved to keep busy, and enjoyed everything from reading, music, history, dancing, bowling, bingo, card playing, boating and fishing. He was a life member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge and the Shriners. Phil was well loved by his family, friends and coworkers for his upbeat, friendly personality and his great sense of humor. He was a welcome addition to any group, and the time he spent with his friends and family were some of his favorites.

In recent years, Phil has enjoyed wintering in Florida with his son and daughter-in-law at their home. And when back in Maine, he particularly enjoyed the companionship of his buddies at the American Legion, and his special friend, Barbara Clark.

Phil was predeceased by his first wife, Virginia and his second wife, Priscilla; his brothers, Robert and George Myers; his sisters, Naomi Ashford and Donna Forsyth; and a step-grandson, Heath Barrett.

He is survived by his son Philip E. ‘Sonny’ Myers, Jr. and his wife Raeberta; a brother-in-law Arthur Pease, Jr. and his wife Marie; his step-daughters, Vicki Barrett and her husband Robert; Sheryl Sutherland; a step-son, David Verge and his wife Sandy; his step-grandchildren, Tracy Street, Scott Mayer, Jenny Barrett-Hibl, Alex Verge, Jamie Sutherland; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
