Ahead of the Fourth of July weekend, not all families are keen to celebrate.
Some are still waiting and watching as their loved ones recover from a mass shooting that happened in downtown Chattanooga on Walnut Street more than a month ago.
Six teens were shot that day and for the first time, we're hearing from one of their family members.
Reagan Paris is one of the teenagers that was shot that day near the Tennessee Aquarium, her family says she has severe injuries.
Now, Paris needs constant care, and may always need it.
"I don't have any time to give up or be weak, that little girl needs me and that's all that matters." says Natasha Kitchens, Paris' mom.
Natasha Kitchen says that hasn't lost her faith that Reagan will reach a full recovery.
"If you know that there's a God then, you know, there's nothing that he can't heal," Kitchens says.
"I can't say she's doing good because she's far from herself, she has a long way to go but she's definitely fighting," Kitchens adds.
Natasha describes the night she found out Reagan was shot.
"I got a call that she had passed away and I said 'absolutely not, she's at work, they had the wrong child somebody's playing with me,'" Kitchens says.
She says the road to recovery for Reagan will not be an easy one, and this tragedy has greatly affected their family.
"She brings life into everything she's around so to have that missing, is a devastating impact on our lives," Kitchens says.
After this shooting and another that left 3 dead on McCallie Avenue a month ago, police promised to respond to large groups more quickly and target specific areas downtown with targeted patrols.
We found some police roaming the area and a large crowd at Nightfall. The DA's office tells us they are moving to try two teen suspects as adults.
Right now, juvenile court says they haven't seen that paperwork yet
"We're going to declare and decree that she will not only be close to where she was before but she's gonna come back and she's gonna be even better," Kitchens says.
Hamilton County District Attorney Neil Pinkston has said they plan to charge the two juvenile suspects in the case as adults.
