Declaration of Independence Reading Set for Saturday

Members of the Colonel Stephen Trigg Chapter Sons of the American Revolution will continue their tradition of reading the Declaration of Independence Saturday ahead of the July 4 holiday marking the birth of our nation.

Geoff Baggett with the Colonel Stephen Trigg Chapter said the tradition began small near the justice center and has moved to a larger area at West Cadiz Park.

click to download audioThe Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. After ratifying the text on July 4, Congress issued the document in several forms and then carried copies to cities and villages throughout the thirteen states over the course of several weeks. The first copy reached Boonesborough on the Kentucky frontier in August 1776.

Saturday’s reading will be at 10 o’clock Saturday morning at West Cadiz Park.
