Rehoboth shops prepare for busy July 4th weekend, hope for big ‘boom’ in business

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – Rave reviews make Mod Cottage on Rehoboth Avenue a tourist hotspot.
As travel is anticipated at nearly pre-pandemic levels this holiday weekend, Owner Brad Holsinger says he expects to see lots of red, white, and green. “It kind of sets the tone. If we have a really big 4th of July weekend we can pretty well expect the rest of the summer will be quite active and busy as well,” Holsinger said.
“A lot of people will buy coastal décor even though they’re visiting from Nebraska or Kansas and put it in their suitcase and take a little bit of the beach with them.”
If you’re looking for a healthy option, SEED Eatery is serving up vegan friendly dishes with fresh ingredients.
Management say they’re prepping for more foot traffic with more staff. “We are anticipating a lot of people so we might as well put a little bit more people on the morning and night shifts so we can actually handle the pressure,” SEED Eatery General Manager Dan Khramchenkov said.
“We have a lot of J1 students that we just hired that are working at our restaurants and are ready to help.”
That isn’t the case for Mod Cottage who now operates as a staff of two with shortened hours. “It just seems like people are in tune with the hours and they doing their shopping really in the day time,” Holsinger said.
“Our business has stayed steady. Even last year was quite a strong year, 2021. 2022 is shaping up to be the same.”
If you’re headed out to the resort town this weekend business owners want you to keep this in mind. “I hear this all the time from my friends in the restaurant industry that they are all working so hard and they just need a little bit of grace and patience,” Holsinger said.
“We just want to spread healthy eating habits and healthy lifestyle to Rehoboth Beach and all the tourists coming in. We’re absolutely happy to do it,” Khramchenkov said.
Owners at Mod Cottage say they’re starting to feel a sense of normalcy again with business picking up and seeing familiar faces they haven’t seen since before the pandemic.
SEED Eatery tells 47ABC lots of their ingredients actually come from local farms, as they push to provide fresh food and support other local businesses.
