One of the top defensive backs in the state has decided to play football at Arkansas.

Pinson Valley’s TJ Metcalf committed to the Razorbacks today on social media, choosing Arkansas after recently narrowing his list to the Razorbacks, Ole Miss, Penn State and Jackson State.

“I just felt like the time is right to go ahead with them,” Metcalf said. “Coach (Sam) Pittman and coach (Dominique) Bowman did a great job recruiting me and my family. I was very comfortable there and had a great time. They made me feel at home.”

The 3-star defensive back is ranked the No. 22 player overall in the state among 247Sports top seniors and No. 30 in the Rivals list of top seniors.

“They want me to come in and play safety,” Metcalf said. “They recruited me and a couple of other guys to fill their back end. They have big plans for me and I feel like I’m their top priority in the secondary.”

Metcalf was born in Oxford, Miss., and both his parents went to school at Ole Miss, dad Tarrus playing for the Rebels as did cousin and Seattle Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf.

“Of course I’ve always liked Ole Miss,” the younger Metcalf said. “With DK and my dad, we have a lot of family ties there. I just felt like this was the right decision for me.”

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound senior had 115 tackles as a junior with four interceptions, eight pass breakups, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

“It’s been a long journey since last year for him and his family and I am very proud of his work ethic and humility through it all,” said Pinson Valley coach Lee Guess. “He’s taken in plenty of wisdom from family and friends that have already gone through the process, so he’s put a lot of thought into this decision.

“I think Arkansas will be a great fit for him and we all look forward to see another deserving player represent PV Nation at the next level.

“I’m just excited to watch him perform and see his hard work pay off for his senior year.”

Metcalf will be lining up in the Pinson Valley secondary with younger brother Tevis this season. The junior is also a prospect with offers from Arkansas, Jackson State and more.
