Daughter of the Stars Farmers Market open 10-2 on Saturday at Big Gem Park

SHENANDOAH, June 28 — The Shenandoah Council received a report on Tuesday night that the Daughter of the Stars Farmer’s Market will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, July 2 and Saturday, July 16 at Big Gem Park, located at 736 Fourth St.

The Farmers Market will continue to open on the first and third Saturdays of each month through November.

In other business at its June 28 meeting, the Shenandoah Council took the following actions:

• Held a public hearing and adopted a proposed FY 2021-22 Budget Amendment to incorporate funding, not to exceed $420,000 used from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021 to offset expenditures incurred.

• Presented a Resolution of Respect to the family of Philip Moyer Secrist Jr., a long time Boy Scout and community leader, who help start and then oversee the Page County Technical Center for many years.

• Received a reminder about the Town of Shenandoah’s Free Movie Night on First Street starting at 8:30 p.m. Moana will be showing on Friday, July 1, with a rain date of July 22. The movie is sponsored by Hammer Insurance Agency and Erie Insurance. Attendees should bring a chair or blanket. Free popcorn and drinks will be offered, while supplies last.

• Heard a report that a seven-foot-long model locomotive is almost complete and will be donated for display in the Town Museum and Welcome Center, open at 507 First St. Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed noon to 1 p.m. for lunch). The Town has also applied for a $5,000 community grant from Norfolk Southern for displays and special events at the museum.

• Received a reminder from the Page Alliance for Community Action (PACA) announcing Free Market Fridays at the Stanley and Shenandoah Community Gardens. Free produce will be given to any age, and meals will be given to children 18 and under from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Stanley’s Community Garden at 235 Medical Drive will have Free Market Fridays on July 1 and Aug. 5. Shenandoah’s Community Garden at 505 Williams Ave. will hold Free Market Fridays on July 8 and Aug. 12. • Heard a report that the new radio system with GPS tracking capabilities has been installed in all Shenandoah Police Department vehicles. The new radio system could go live as early as October. The cost is $80,000 and invoices will be received soon. All departments in Page County are being required to change to this new radio system.

• Approved several maintenance repairs in the water and wastewater systems, including the $3,990 repair of an actuator of the sewer weir at the Wastewater Treatment Plant by The Perkinson Company; the $13,830 replacement and installation of two actuators at the Wastewater Treatment Plant by The Perkinson Company; the $4,300 purchase of a repair kit for the pump at the pumphouse by Lloyd Electric Company. Lloyd’s Electric repaired the pump and rewound the motor. Research will be done to determine the cost of a new pump.

• Approved the resignation of James Campbell Jr. from the Shenandoah Planning Commission. Any town resident who would like to volunteer to fill this vacant position may send a resume to Town Clerk Lora Jenkins at ljenkins@townofshenandoah.com or bring your resume to Town Hall.

• Authorized an additional payment of $900 to Hensil Good Paving to offset increased material costs for the patching and sealing of Town Hall and the Police Department parking lots.
