It’s Michigan Month in the Town of Plattsburgh and town officials are looking to cook up some excitement and sales for the hot-dog-with-meat-sauce regional favorite.

Now through July 31, you can fill out your Michigan Passport by visiting the four Michigan restaurants in the town: Gus’ Red Hots, Ronnie’s Michigan Stand, Clare & Carl’s and McSweeney’s Red Hots.

The first 25 people to complete their passports will receive a free T-shirt. After that, you’re eligible for a bumper sticker and a limited 75 T-shirts will be available for purchase, according to the town. You can get your passports at the town hall, the North Country Chamber of Commerce or any of the participating restaurants.

On Thursday, the town unveiled a William G. Pomeroy Foundation Hungry for History marker commemorating the Michigan. In a Facebook post, the town said the Hungry for History grant program "celebrates America’s food history by telling the stories of local and regional food specialties across the United States" that were created before 1970. According to the town’s website, the Michigan’s origin is unknown, but it arrived in Plattsburgh some time in the 1920s.

The town held its first Michigan Month in July 2021. This year's celebration of the delicacy included a T-shirt design contest. Later this month, a Michigan Mile Fun Run and 5K will take place at Cadyville Rec Park. Register for the fun run here.
