LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — UPDATE, 7/1/22, 5 p.m.: A man is in custody after a barricade situation at Himbola Manors Apartment Complex.
The Lafayette Police Department (LPD) arrested George Andrews, 22, after a 5-hour standoff with the U.S. Marshall’s Office, Lafayette Swat team, and police. U.S. Marshall’s initially were trying to arrest Andrews for illegally carrying a firearm, as he is a convicted felon.
Andrews also had a warrant for domestic battery.
Police told News 10 that when U.S. Marshalls arrived, Andrews’ family agreed to come out of the apartment, though Andrews himself refused to come out.
Officers safely escorted three children and several other people out of the apartment, but the swat team then took control of the situation, as Andrews kept himself barricaded inside.
After about five hours, the swat team used gas to go inside the apartment and remove Andrews. Officers were able to arrest Andrews without any injuries. He is being booked into the parish jail.
