ORONO, Maine - Jim Montgomery (Maine '93) has been named the 29th head coach in Boston Bruins history.
Â
Montgomery, 53, leaves his role as an assistant coach on Craig Berube's coaching staff with the St. Louis Blues.
Â
'Monty' played four seasons at the University of Maine (1989-93) before signing with the Blues of the National Hockey League. He finished his career at Maine as the school's all-time leading scorer with 301 points (103 G, 198 A). His number 19 was retired by the ice hockey program.
Â
Most notably, Montgomery played on the Black Bears' top line alongside Hall-of-Famer Paul Kariya and led the University of Maine to a 41-1-2 record and NCAA National Championship during the 1992-93 season.
Â
Montgomery, along with the rest of the 1992-93 national championship team, was inducted into the University of Maine athletics hall-of-fame in 2017. Director of athletics
Ken Ralph called upon Monty to help with the 2021 men's ice hockey coaching vacancy.
