Jim Montgomery Named 29th Head Coach in Boston Bruins History

ORONO, Maine - Jim Montgomery (Maine '93) has been named the 29th head coach in Boston Bruins history.

Montgomery, 53, leaves his role as an assistant coach on Craig Berube's coaching staff with the St. Louis Blues.

'Monty' played four seasons at the University of Maine (1989-93) before signing with the Blues of the National Hockey League. He finished his career at Maine as the school's all-time leading scorer with 301 points (103 G, 198 A). His number 19 was retired by the ice hockey program.

Most notably, Montgomery played on the Black Bears' top line alongside Hall-of-Famer Paul Kariya and led the University of Maine to a 41-1-2 record and NCAA National Championship during the 1992-93 season.

Montgomery, along with the rest of the 1992-93 national championship team, was inducted into the University of Maine athletics hall-of-fame in 2017. Director of athletics Ken Ralph called upon Monty to help with the 2021 men's ice hockey coaching vacancy.
