17-year-old arrested on murder charge after shooting death in Williamson County

MARION, Ill. (KBSI) – A 17-year-old boy faces charges after a man was shot and died in Williamson County on June 29.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home in rural Williamson County at 10:50 p.m. on Wednesday.

Deputies found Shawn J. Adams, 57, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead by the Williamson County Coroner’s Office.

An autopsy was performed by the Williamson County Coroner’s Office by Forensic Pathologist Dr. Christopher Kiefer. The apparent cause of death was from a gunshot wound. Further autopsy results are pending.

The teen was taken into custody at the scene. He has been initially charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and first degree murder, according to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect was transported to the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center where he is being held pending a court appearance.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, Williamson County Coroner’s Office and Illinois State Police Crime Scene continue to investigate.
