Powell recently appeared in the sequel to Top Gun as hotshot pilot Lt. Jake Hangman, and he will be flying once again as pilot Tom Hudner in the new war drama Devotion, which is due in cinemas later this year.
Directed by J.D. Dillard and based on Adam Makos's bestselling book of the same name, Devotion follows the harrowing true story of two elite US Navy fighter pilots during the Korean War. Their valiant efforts would eventually make them the Navy's most celebrated wingmen.
Powell's Tom Hudner is one of those pilots, while Loki's Jonathan Majors will play Naval Aviator Jesse L. Brown alongside him.

Jonas Brothers singer Nick has recently transitioned from music to film, appearing in movies such as Jumanji, Chaos Walking, and Midway.
Earlier this year, Nick and his wife Priyanka Chopra welcomed their first child together and announced the news on Instagram.
In May, the couple revealed that their daughter, Malti Marie, had been brought home after spending over 100 days in the newborn intensive care unit.
Posting the news on social media on Mother's Day, Nick wrote: "After 100 plus days in the NICU, our little girl is finally home. Every family's journey is unique and requires a certain level of faith, and while ours was a challenging few months, what becomes abundantly clear, in retrospect, is how precious and perfect every moment is."
Top Gun: Maverick is now playing in UK and US cinemas.
