Sullivan mural celebrates agriculture, patriotism

SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Work is underway on a mural in Sullivan.

It’s a project by the Sullivan Area Art Guild. They hope that it’s just the first of many murals to be painted in town. This current project is being put up on a side wall of Riggs Hardware on Main Street.

Guildmember Steve Tucker says that grant funding allowed the group to get to work quickly on the 41-foot-long mural.

“It’s very visible from the Square and we’re really happy about that,” Tucker said.

The mural features patriotic symbols and agricultural imagery. Tucker says for him, the project “just feels like home,” a message that’s also scrawled across the top of the 14-foot-tall art piece.

“I designed it a long time ago, and then the group of us have probably changed ten or fifteen things on it since then, but it’s looking pretty good.”

He expects the mural to be completed in two to three weeks.
