A 19-year-old is behind bars in an April drive-by shooting in Bessemer that killed a mother of four children and injured three men.

Cedric Dewaun Evans Jr., of Bessemer, is charged with capital murder in the slaying of 23-year-old Johnnae Shy’Ann Fuller. He is also charged with three counts of attempted murder and discharging a firearm into an unoccupied dwelling.

Records show Evan was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 12:57 p.m. Wednesday and remains held without bond.

The deadly shooting happened April 28. It was about 3:45 p.m. when Fuller was on the front porch of her home in the 1800 block of Berkley Avenues. Fuller’s children – ages 6, 2, 1, and a newborn – were not home when the gunfire erupted.

The gunfire also wounded three men. Two sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and the third was seriously injured.

Lt. Christian Clemons said previously they believe the shooting was in retaliation to a previous shooting in Bessemer. He did not say who was targeted but said someone in the house was targeted.
