HURON — The Brookings Junior Legion Chutes came to Huron Wednesday night and put a few balls into orbit against an undermanned home squad, playing with just nine players as they dropped the doubleheader by scores of 19-2 and 8-0 at Memorial Stadium.
In the first game, Chutes’ bats pounded the Tigers pitching, launching two balls out of Memorial Stadium and putting 12 runs on the board in a single inning before a run-rule victory.
Logan Leyendecker took most of the abuse on the mound, going 2 2/3 innings, allowing 14 runs and striking out five.
Brady Feenstra got the final out, but not until after he surrendered five runs as well.
The Huron offense managed just four base-runners all game, with Tanner Gilbert representing three of those as he had a double and was hit by pitch twice.
While the offense beat down the Tigers in the first game, their own gloves did it in the second game, as seven Huron errors led to eight unearned runs in an 8-0 loss.
Jack Pedersen took the loss on the mound, going four innings, allowing all eight unearned runs and striking out four.
Tanner Gilbert pitched a scoreless inning of relief with a strikeout to finish out the game.
The Huron offense managed just three hits and only five total baserunners against Brookings pitcher David Brink.
