It’s National Hot Dog Month, so we’ve put together a list of must-try Columbus spots

Jack McLaughlin

While the whole National Whatever Day and Month trend can be a little extra a lot of the time, here at 614Now, we’ll take whatever excuse we can find to indulge in some great Columbus hot dogs.

And would you look at that? It’s July 1. The first day of National Hot Dog Month. It doesn’t hurt that the Fourth of July is right around the corner, either.

So with this obvious pretext, we’ve compiled a list of some of the city’s best hot dogs. This is by no means definitive, as the city is home to more than a few great spots. Let’s dig in!

Bowzers

Located in a tiny faux on Brice Road, Bowsers’ location will pique your interest. Their food, from their quesadilla dog to their original Coneys, will keep your interest. The hot dog stand also offers the perfect compliment to summer hot dogs: soft serve.

Dad’s Coneys and Wraps

This unassuming North Side eatery, nestled in Graceland Shopping Center, opened last year and hasn’t looked back since. Dad’s offers a variety of classic Coney dogs, hearty sandwiches and a whole lot more.

Dirty Frank’s Hot Dog Palace

No list of Columbus hot dogs is complete without Dirty Frank’s. The bustling hot dog “palace” is known for its wild creations—like the inclusion of kimchi and jalapeño poppers on dogs—as well as a totally unique atmosphere.

Junkyard Dogs

With its grand opening taking place today, this concept from the owner of Borgata Pizza Cafe Ed Bisconti and QFM96 host Jerry Elliot is the newest on our list. It offers high-quality hot dogs, brats and sausages, in addition to thick-cut chips coated in Buffalo seasoning known as hubcaps.

The Pit BBQ Grille

This one might be cheating, but who’s going to stop us? The Pit, the popular barbecue concept owned by several former OSU football standouts, offers an indulgent Polish sausage decked out in cole saw, fries and Pit sauce known as the Polish Boy. The Polish Girl features the same ingredients in addition to a liberal serving of pulled pork, chicken or brisket on top.

Tasty Dawg

Formerly a ghost kitchen, Tasty Dawg opened its first brick and mortar restaurant Downtown last year. And we’re glad they did. Similar to Dirty Frank’s, it offers a wide variety of hot dogs topped with everything under the sun, from bacon bits to pineapple.

Tony’s Coneys

Say hello to the OG of Columbus hot dogs. Tony’s has been around since 1951. Aside from their coneys and regular dogs, the long-standing spot also boasts sandwiches, a massive selection of appetizers, ice cream and shakes. Here’s to another 70 years.

Weenie Wonder

Rise Brands’, the owners of Pins Mechanical Co. and 16-Bit Arcade + Bar, first foray into food was a slam dunk. The nostalgic Bridge Park eatery offers high-quality dogs, shakes and jojos, and there’s an even a new location currently in the works.

Bonus Dog: The wildly-popular sandwich spot Wario’s Beef & Pork is offering a special on hot dogs until 5 p.m. today.
