MACON, Ga. (WGXA) -- Following more than 200 emergency calls and multiple homicides, including the death of 16-year-old Kymelo Early back in May, Friends Food Mart was facing being shut down after being deemed a public nuisance but, after meeting with the courts, the store will be allowed to remain open as long as it makes a few changes.
In an order from the Superior Court, the store will have to monitor activity in its parking lots by posting "NO LOITERING" signs, banning gatherings and alerting police if these rules are broken.
In addition, the store is to post signs stating that "THIS AREA IS UNDER CONSTANT VIDEO SURVEILLANCE BY THE PROPERTY AND BY THE POLICE" and both signs must be posted in clearly visible areas both inside and outside the store.
The order also prohibits the owners from selling or re-leasing the store without having the new tenant or buyer first file a notice with the court.
In addition, the store must close by 11:00 P.M. and not reopen until 6:00 A.M. every night.
