A new In-N-Out location is set to open in Sonoma County in 2023, according to Sonoma Magazine. The publication spotted “coming soon” signs posted at 2532 Santa Rosa Ave., Santa Rosa, and a restaurant at that address is listed on the employment section of the In-N-Out website as "opening soon."News of the plans for a new Santa Rosa In-N-Out first broke in November 2020, when Santa Rosa’s planning commission oversaw impact studies and approved plans for the restaurant. This would be In-N-Out's second Santa Rosa location, with its first, at 2131 County Center Drive, having opened back in 2010. Other Sonoma County locations include one in Rohnert Park and another in Petaluma. While In-N-Out was unable to share an official opening date for the new Santa Rosa In-N-Out with SFGATE just yet, the assistant vice president of real estate and development for In-N-Out, Mike Abbate, told Sonoma Magazine that it usually takes seven to eight months to open a new location. The Santa Rosa restaurant will feature a drive-thru as well as plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Last year, the fast food chain's only San Francisco location made headlines for not checking customers' proof of vaccination before dining indoors, in violation of local guidelines, resulting in its temporary closure by the San Francisco Department of Public Health. In-N-Out's chief legal and business officer Arnie Wensinger said in a statement obtained by SFGATE that "we refuse to become the vaccination police for any government." Ultimately, the In-N-Out location resumed operations for outdoor dining and take-out only, and also closed indoor dining at its five Contra Costa County locations in protest of the mandate — presumably until the counties removed their proof of vaccination requirement for restaurants.
