A bit of good news for a former Sulphur Springs Wildcat, Colby Suggs was named the bullpen coach for the Minnesota Twins Friday. Suggs has been with the Twins organization since 2019 and was the bullpen coach for the University of Arkansas in 2018, the same school he helped lead to a College World Series back in 2012.

After having a tremendous career at Arkansas, Suggs was the 73rd overall pick of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft by the Miami Marlins. Suggs would appear in 79 games in his minor league career and did so efficiently, striking out 94 batters in 96.2 innings of work.

He also had a minor league career record of 3-9, with an ERA of 4.38 and a WHIP of 1.36. Early in his coaching career he saw success, helping lead the University of Razorbacks to a second College World Series, cementing his legacy in “OmaHog” history.

Since then he has been with the Twins organization and has continuously climbed the ladder. Earlier this week, it was announced that Twins pitching coach Wes Johnson would be heading to LSU to take the same position.

Minnesota weighed their options and chose to promote, then bullpen coach, Pete Maki to the role of pitching coach. Maki joined the organization just one year before Suggs and has been part of the Major League staff since 2020.

With the shuffling around, Suggs will now fill the role of bullpen coach for the Minnesota Twins. The Twins are currently sitting atop of the American League Central, sitting a full game ahead of the Cleveland Guardians.

With a record of 43-36, Minnesota has one of the best records in all of baseball, giving Suggs yet another chance to help lead his team to postseason action. In his new role he will get to help coach the likes of Jhoan Duran, Emilio Pagan, Tyler Duffey, Joe Smith and Trevor Megill.
