Northeast Missouri wrong-way crash kills 1, injures another

Two out-of-state drivers were involved in a nearly head-on, wrong-way crash in Monroe County, Missouri, late Thursday night. (KTVO File){p}{/p}
MONROE CITY, Mo. —
A wrong-way crash late Thursday night in northeast Missouri killed one driver and badly injured the other driver.

It happened just before 11 p.m. on Highway 36 at Monroe City.
State troopers say an SUV driven by Mark Kane, 47, of Gainesville, Georgia, was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of Highway 36 when he slammed nearly head-on into another SUV.
That SUV was driven by Austin Sloan, 22, of Suffolk, Virginia.
Kane was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sloan suffered serious injuries and was flown to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment.
According to the online crash report, both drivers were buckled up at the time of the collision.
