Spartan Athletics Mourns the Passing of Tom Campbell

Tom CampbellEast Lansing, Mich. -- Michigan State athletics is mourning the passing of Tom Campbell, the Munn Ice Arena manager who spent parts seven decades within its walls as a player, fan, valued employee, and friend.

Hockey was Campbell's passion. He was the first product of the Greater Lansing Amateur Hockey Association (GLAHA) to play varsity hockey for the Spartans when he skated for Michigan State from 1966-70 on both the freshman and varsity teams.

Campbell assumed the position of the manager of Munn Arena in 1985, a position he held for nearly 40 years. From watching MSU Hockey practice on the concourse outside his corner office, observing pregame warm-ups from the Zamboni tunnel, taking in the game from his seat right behind the net, and his weekly skates at the rink with close friends, family and former players - Tom was a 'rink guy' and a true Spartan to his core.

While his presence at the rink will be deeply missed, his legacy will continue on.  Our hearts are with his wife, Kelly, daughter Grace, and his extended family and network of teammates and friends.

Details on a celebration of Tom's life will come at a later date.
