Mack Brown and the UNC football program have stolen a prospect from enemy territory, as Durham’s own Jaybron Harvey committed to the Tar Heels.

Even though he lives in Durham, North Carolina, Jaybron Harvey decided that he wants to play college football right down the road in Chapel Hill

On his social media accounts, Harvey announced that he has committed to the UNC football program. The four-star edge becomes the fourth commitment that North Carolina has earned over the last five days.

Harvey is considered one of the top 2023 prospects out of the state of North Carolina, as 247Sports Composite ranks him as the No. 6 overall player in his area. He’s also regarded as the No. 25 overall ranked edge rusher in his class.

Here’s what National Recruiting Analyst Brian Dohn had to say about Harvey in his latest scouting report:

"Verified size with length. Has frame and skill set for edge rusher. Will be able to play at 230 pounds. Incredibly productive player with 28 sacks, 129 tackles as junior. Plays both sides of ball in various roles at Southern. High-level athlete with excellent burst at snap. Twitchy prospect gets off quickly and stay lows while eating up space in first few steps. Plays standing up and with hand on ground. Has motor and works to fight through double teams. Changes direction well and chases down plays on back side. Timing and anticipation of snap are excellent. Shows closing speed and body control. Uses a swim move at times, especially when feigning outside and moving inside. Has to continue to develop in the weight room. Relies heavily on physical talent but must refine technique. At times loops to the backfield rather than dipping shoulder and exploding toward ball carrier. Has to show he can be consistent in stacking and shedding when ball is run at him. Has athleticism to drop into coverage but needs to work on technique of it. Multi-year starter at Top 20 Power 5 program. Size could keep from being high NFL draft pick but has NFL draft potential."

In what will be a very busy day for the UNC football program in terms of recruiting news, Harvey got the day started right with his commitment. The Tar Heels are now in double-digits, as they officially have 10 committed players in their Class of 2023 haul.

That number could change rather quickly, as there are a few players that the Tar Heels are very much in the mix for that are scheduled to announce their decisions later on today.
