The couple accused of killing a 12-year-old in Fountain Inn are the girl's mother and stepfather, according to Fountain Inn police.
Shawnetta Shawntae Faust and Barkee Jameel Faust are charged with murder in the death of Ashantae Unique Glenn, officials said to WYFF News 4.
An arrest warrant said that on or about May 28 the Fausts killed Glenn "with malice aforethought, including but not limited to acts demonstrating an extreme indifference to the value of human life."
The warrant said the above happened at the couple's home on Alyssa Landing Drive in Fountain Inn.
The Greenville County Coroner's Office said Glenn died at Hillcrest Hospital on May 28. The coroner's office said the cause and manner of death are still pending.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is assisting with the investigation.
An obituary said, "'Shantae' as she was affectionately called by family and friends, attended Cora Spencer Elementary School in Grand Prairie, Texas."
It went on to say that Glenn "enjoyed playing on her tablet, playing dress-up with her 'Baby Alive' Dolls, singing, dancing with her sisters and cooking with her mother. Ashantae was extremely helpful around the house and enjoyed helping in any way she could. Shantae had a beautiful loving soul; everyone who encountered her always left with joy and laughter in their hearts. She has left a legacy of love to all who came into her presence."
